A post on the Halo Waypoint forums has shed light on what we can expect from the limited edition of November’s Halo 4.

Today’s Halo Bulletin, by 343i Community Manager ‘bs angel’, announced the $100 set, which will include the following:

  • War Games map pack access
Nine maps will be made available after launch across three map packs. Limited edition owners will get them at no extra charge.
  • Early Specialization unlocks
Specializations are used to achieve higher ranks in multiplayer, and also unlock customization options. Limited edition owners will be able to unlock six specializations early.
  • UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet
Includes an introduction to the ship UNSC Infinity (on which the multiplayer modes take place), a Spartan armour customization schematic and an insight into the new Spartan IV soldiers. The post states “Story lovers will especially enjoy this in-fiction offering that provides a glimpse into the indoctrination of Spartans aboard the Infinity.”
  • Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Special Edition
An extended, full-length cut of the previously-announced live-action web series, as well as bonus content and featurettes.
  • Additional XBox Live DLC
Including in-game weapon and armour skins, and avatar extras.

It was also announced that there will be no Legendary Edition this time around, which makes me a bit sad as I have those editions of Halo 3 and Reach. The free access to future map packs is a nice touch for those that will likely be packing the multiplayer servers for a few years to come, but with no images of the physical content to go on, it’s hard to judge the rest of the package. I know a lot of people find the usual limited edition items such as statues rather pointless, but I’m of a differing opinion…

You could say I’m rather fond of Halo. That would be a massive underestimation.

A UK price has not yet been revealed for the limited edition, and no UK online retailers are yet listing it for pre-order, but I’m going to take a wild stab in the dark and guess it’ll be £70 here. You can see an image of the package below. Halo 4 launches on November 6.
